Available in either off-white or black stock shapes, ABS is a good choice for structural applications when impact resistance, strength, and stiffness are required. It is often used to create prototypes because it is easy to machine, sand, paint, or glue. It offers excellent aesthetics with an attractive look and feel. ABS allows good cosmetic finishes and can be colored relatively easily; it is often used for housings with textured or glossy surfaces. It is thermoplastic, liquifying at 221° F, making it easily injection molded or used with a 3D printer and then subsequently recycled.
ABS is used in a wide variety of applications, including OEM part production, 3D print manufacturing, machine prototypes, pipes and fittings, packaging, computer keyboards, tool and other housings, toys, small kitchen appliances, protective headgear, and automotive components.
