MACHINING WITH PVDF PLASTICS

Pete Poodiack, VP of Sales and Marketing at Controlled Fluidics, talks about PVDF plastic and what makes it a popular material for plastic machining and fabrication.

Transcript

Hello and welcome. This video is about PVDF, which is short for polyvinylidene difluorid.

PVDF has some of the highest rigidity and strength in the fluorocarbon class of plastics. It's a very mechanically tough material that can stand up to a lot of environmental challenges.

PVDF has very low water absorption. It also has high resistance to flames, and it's a self-extinguishing material. PVDF resists corrosion and chemicals at both ambient and elevated temperatures. You can very easily use PVDF in outdoor applications as it is UV stable with excellent sunlight and weather resistance.

At Controlled Fluidics, we see PVDF used a lot in the chemical processing, biomedical research, and medical industries. We also have clients choose this material for electronic components. It's very versatile. It comes in a natural white color, and we usually work with ZL 1700-grade PVDF.

This only covers the basics. Learn more about PVDF Plasticon our materials page.
